They display related questions other users have asked, with expandable answers sourced from the web. Each answer includes the source website — giving that brand visibility, authority and clicks from users engaging with the PAA box.
There is no limit. We have had clients appear in 5+ PAA positions on a single SERP. Unlike featured snippets (only one per query), PAA boxes expand to show multiple questions and answers, and multiple answers can come from the same domain.
FAQPage schema is a necessary but not sufficient condition for rich results — Google decides whether to display them based on content quality, policy compliance and query relevance. That said, correctly implemented FAQPage schema is shown in rich results the majority of the time for eligible pages. We also monitor for any policy violations that would suppress rich result display.
